Musim 2004-05 Roberto Mancini didatangkan Massimo Moratti untuk menghapus dahaga gelar di Inter Milan. Hal ini sangat dimaklumi karena sejak Massimo Moratti memimpin Inter Milan tahun 1995, hanya satu gelar yang diraih yakni Piala UEFA 1997/98. Sempat dituding hanya berkah Calciopoli, toh Mancio sanggup mengulangi sukses tersebut di musim 2006/07 dan 2007/08. Bukan hanya itu Mancio pun sukses membawa La Beneamata meraih 2 Coppa Italia dan 2 Super Coppa Italia.
Lalu apa yang membuat Moratti berani mendepak pelatih sesukses Mancini? Jawabannya adalah trofi Liga Champions! Yup, selama melatih Inter Milan, Mancio selalu gagal membawa Inter merajai Eropa. Ironisnya, dalam dua musim terakhir Inter selalu terdepak di babak 16 besar. Kesuksesan di Italia tanpa kesuksesan di Eropa ibarat sayur tanpa garam.
Untuk itulah Moratti menunjuk The Special One, Jose Mourinho untuk membawa Inter meraih kejayaan di Eropa. Tak bisa dipungkiri Mourinho adalah pelatih yang spesial. Betapa tidak, sejak menangani Porto di musim 2002/03 tak ada satu musim pun yang dilaluinya tanpa torehan gelar. Yang paling fenomenal tentunya pada musim 2003/04 saat membawa Porto, tim yang sama sekali tak diunggulkan meraih juara Liga Champions.
Di Chelsea pun Mourinho tergolong sukses. Musim 2004/05 dia membawa Chelsea mengakhiri puasa panjang 50 tahun merebut gelar Premier League. Total di Chelsea ia sukses merengkuh 2 trofi Premier League, 2 Piala Liga, 1 trofi Community Shield, dan 1 FA Cup. Satu kegagalan Mourinho di Chelsea adalah ia gagal mengulang kesuksesannya meraih trofi Liga Champions.
Ambisi Mourinho sangat pas dengan ambisi Moratti saat ini yaitu meraih trofi Liga Champions. Apalagi terakhir kali Inter menjuarai Liga Champions adalah musim 1964/65, artinya Interisti sudah menunggu hampir selama 43 tahun. Kita tunggu saja, jika kedatangan Mancini dapat menghapus dahaga akan gelar scudetto, apakah kedatangan Mourinho dapat menghapus dahaga Interisti akan gelar Liga Champions.
